The Stig - Unmasked

On Monday the 21st of June, the famous mystery race driver on Top Gear was relvealed. The white helmet revealed Micheal Schumacer, the ex-formula 1 driver in front of 7.1 million viewers on BBC1.
A lot of people believe this was a publicity stunt, and that Micheal Schumacer is not the Stig... atleast, not the only one. It is thought that other racing legends such as Ben Collins and Damon Hill have also made appearances as the masked mystery race driver, but we the public don't know for sure.
On the programme, The Stig completed a new fast
est lap in the Ferrari FSX, 7 seconds faster than the
previous time.

British Grand Prix - Race Results

The British Grand Prix 2009 was a fantastic spectacle, where the weather conditions were sunny. Sebastian Vettel started pole position and never looked in any threat of losing the first place throughout the race. He was increasing his lead to even longer every single lap and was alone from the pack for most of the race. Vettel secured his second victory of the season in Britain and was ecstatic about his smooth and straight forward win.

Current table season leader Jenson Button got off to a poor start where he appeared to attempt to over take a car in front of him and was blocked off, leaving him open to be over taken himself. Button was battling hard to regain his position, and finally managed to regain his 6th place start to finish the race. He revelaed that he was dissapointed, but he felt the car had diffulties on the day, especially on the soft tyres.

Webber confortably claimed 2nd and Rubens Barrichello claimed 3rd.
Trulli hung on for seventh for Toyota, while Raikkonen fended off the Italian's team mate Timo Glock, but only just. Behind them, Giancarlo Fisichella took a fighting 10th place for Force India ahead of Kazuki Nakajima in the second Williams.
Lewis Hamilton had a terrible race. It was compromised early on as Renault's Fernando Alonso slid off the track ahead of him but obliged him in turn to go off in avoidance as he jerked back on to the tarmac. That left him embroiled in a fight with the Renaults and the BMW Saubers, which saw all of them lapped.

British Grand Prix - Qualifying

The qualifying sessions on saturday proved quite eventful, where Sebastian Vettel recorded the fastest time for his team Red-Bull Renault around the Silverstone circuit. Jenson Button could not keep up his fantastic form in the qualifying and could only place 6th on the grid for the race. Rubens Barrichello lined up second and Mark Webber of Australia came 3rd. Great Britains other driver Lewis Hamilton had a poor qualifying day for his standards and lines up 18th for the race on Sunday, his worst ever starting place.

Driver Quotes following Turkish GP

Jenson Button (1st): "I wish I could have had the whole team up there on the podium with me today! This was definitely a victory for us all, everyone at the track, back at the factory in Brackley and at Mercedes-Benz High Performance Engines in Brixworth. Today we really showed what this car and engine can do and to beat our closest competitors fair and square is a great feeling. I had a good start from the dirty side of the grid and it was really important to maintain second position into the first corner. I took my opportunity on the first lap when Sebastian went wide and from there we controlled the race. Once we knew that Sebastian was going for a three-stop strategy, we filled the car up at my first stop and I just tried to be as consistent as possible to keep him behind me. It's not nice to see a car catching you so quickly, even when you know he is on low fuel, but once he pitted I was able to push harder. I had a smile on my face for pretty much every lap today, the car felt that good, and I was able to back off in the last stint to conserve the engine. This is the first time that the car has been absolutely perfect for me and it means so much to the team to see just how good this car is. To go to Silverstone for our home race leading the championships is a wonderful feeling but we know that we have to keep pushing to maintain our advantage."
Mark Webber (2nd): “A goo
d race. I knew I had to hang in
there for as long as possible in the first stint. It worked out
pretty well and I managed to go a lap longer and save fuel, which helped me gain some time. I knew Sebastian’s strategy and that I was in with a sniff of getting a podium finish. Both Sebastian and I knew that first place was gone and it was about who would finish behind Jenson - he was on another planet! The second stint was
therefore crucial, I had to push really hard. When you’re on a different strategy, the other guy is almost invisible until after the pit stops, but it turned out well for us and my engineer kept me updated with what was happening. I did enough in the middle stint to be able to jump Sebastian at the pit stops. Then, at the end we turned the engine down and brought the car home.”
Sebastian Vettel (3rd): “The
start worked out okay, I was
ahead but then I nearly lost t
he car in Turn Nine and 10 on the first lap. It was my mistake, it was extremely difficult there and I nearly did the same on the second
lap. It was quite tricky, but I think without that there wouldn’t have a big difference, as Jenson was too quick today. After that I thought the strategy might swap to a two-stop plan, but it didn’t. I got caught behind Jenson who was heavier in the second stint and that allowed Mark to get ahead. Nonetheless, a good result for the team and I think we can be satisfied with second and third.”

Turkish Grand Prix - Race Results

Jenson Button added another first place finish to his season of success, where he has won 6 out of the last 7 races. Brawn's Jenson Button, took full advantage of Sebastian Vettel's first lap error at turn 9 and overtook the driver to claim first place, and comfortably managed to retain the lead.

Sebastian Vettel finished third behind team-mate Mark Webber while Toyota's Jarno Trulli drove solidly to end up fourth.
Button built up a commanding lead of almost 12 seconds before his first pit stop and although the Vettel got close, after that stop he could not get past the man on form.
Vettel's three-stop strategy meant he was light enough to slash Button's lead but it also allowed his Red Bull team-mate Mark Webber to pass him as he went into the pits for a second time on lap 29.
Button's team-mate Rubens Barrichello had a nightmare race as he dropped down 10 places from third to 13th after an awful start.
The veteran Brazilian was then engaged in several battles with the Kers-powered McLaren's who used their kinetic energy recovery power boost system to frustrate Barrichello.
Barrichello's day got even worse when he was forced out of the race on lap 48 with a gearbox problem as Brawn suffered their first retirement of the season.

The final standings were:

Turkish Grand Prix, Istanbul 2009

The anticipated Turkish Grand Prix is taking place this weekend in Istan
bul. It is held in the Istanbul Park Circuit and consists of 58 laps on the 7th of June. Felipe Massa will be looking for yet another win in Turkey, continuing his reign of consistent wins over the past 3 years, but may have trouble getting past Jenson Button in particular, who is in fantastic form, winning 5 of the last 6 races this season with Brawn Mercedes. The track has many exciting features as the track follows the lands natural
contours, which dips and falls in awkward
places. Turn 8 of the Istanbul Park Circuit is probably the most tricky turn t
he drivers will have to make as it is a quadruple apex corner, with a load of 5G's for 4 seconds at 6th gear. Many drivers spin out around this corner due to pushing the car too far in attempt to get the best time possible.

Be sure to tune into the live coverage this weekend, as it promisies to be yet another
enthrawling race to watch.
